In the wonderful world of NIL and the Transfer Portal, the college football landscape has continued to evolve over the last several years. For the first time ever, not only do the tremendous football players we watch every Saturday get to make money off of their personal brand, but they also get to play as themselves in a video game. NCAA Football 25 was a huge success last year, and everyone is already pumped for the next version being released.
On Tuesday, a sneak peak into NCAA Football 26 was released. We got to see two versions of the cover for this season, one a cover that was shared by wide receivers Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) and Ryan Williams (Alabama). There is also a deluxe version, which included a bunch of current college football stars, coaches, and some all time greats.
Included on that second option was Michigan true freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood. With that inclusion among that group, Underwood became the first true freshman player ever included on the cover. To say that the expectations were high for Underwood and what he is going to accomplish in Ann Arbor as early as this year, it would be a massive understatement.

The 6-3, 205-pound passer was considered to be the top overall player in the 2025 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. Underwood was originally committed to the LSU Tigers until a sweet NIL offer came late from the Wolverines side. A Michigan native, Underwood is now viewed as the savior of the quarterback position for the program.
Everyone is extremely excited to see Underwood in the maize and gold this season, but some believe that head coach Sherrone Moore and the Michigan staff will bring him along slowly. The program brought in former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene in this offseason to be the bridge signal caller for Underwood until he’s ready to go. There’s a chance that plan could go to the wayside if Underwood is just too good to keep off the field in 2025.
Clearly everyone is very excited to see what he can bring to the table immediately, so much so that he is already considered a spokesperson of college football by some. The future of the Michigan quarterback is firmly on the right arm and dynamic legs of Underwood.
