Michigan QB JJ McCarthy Receives Huge NFL Draft Prediction
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy may not currently occupy a prominent position on the majority of mock draft boards, but a noteworthy NFL Draft analyst has expressed confidence that he will rise to become a top-15 selection.

In a recent guest appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay Podcast, NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller from ESPN shared his strong belief that JJ McCarthy is destined to secure a spot among the top 15 picks in the forthcoming NFL Draft.

“I know this is going to surprise a lot of people, but I truly believe this, that he will be a top 15 draft pick. Evaluators are in love with the tools, and with the mental make-up. There’s this belief that at Michigan, he was kind of you know, there were guard rails put up for him, because they had such a great run game. They had an offensive line that could just overpower people. We saw that in the second half against Penn State. He didn’t attempt a pass that wasn’t called back for a penalty. So I think that right now, you know with McCarthy, it’s more the things that you don’t know, you’re comfortable with, and you can kind of excuse those away.”

During the 2023 season with the Wolverines, McCarthy ended up completing 72.3 percent of his pass attempts for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also picked up 202 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Those numbers show why McCarthy has been rising up draft boards. He certainly has the potential to go in the top-15, although some believe he could even end up going in the top-10.

It will be interesting to see where the Michigan standout lands in the 2024 NFL Draft. There is no denying the fact that he has big-time potential at the NFL level. However, there are more questions surrounding him than other quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

Expect to hear more about JJ McCarthy as the NFL Draft draws closer. For now, he continues his rise up the board in mock drafts.
