In three seasons at Michigan, quarterback Alex Orji has found reps a bit hard to come by under both Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore. With a few years of college eligibility remaining, he appears to be eyeing greener pastures.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports and ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, Orji revealed that he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal. Per the report he will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"BREAKING: Michigan QB Alex Orji plans to enter the Transfer Portal, he tells @on3sports. The 6’3 235 QB appeared in 20 games for the Wolverines (3 starts). Will have 2 years of eligibility remaining," Fawcett reported first.

Orji leaves Michigan having completed 53.3-percent of his passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. On the ground he added another 383 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

But if Orji's plan is to go somewhere he can play quarterback, then college football fans don't have any confidence that he'll be successful in that regard. Just about everyone in response to this news (with some exceptions) is predicting that he'll have to give up being a quarterback in order to be successful.

"Hopefully, he’s entering as a running back. Kid is not a collegiate quarterback… and that’s not a hot take," one user declared.

"Really hoped that he would turn into a tight end/fullback type. Can’t blame the kid for wanting more play time though. Go be great, 10!" another user wrote.

"I get how bad he is throwing the ball, but his athletic ability is still so off the charts I have to believe a program is willing to offer him a starting job," a third suggested.

Coming out of high school in 2022, Orji was a three-star prosect and the No. 50 quarterback in the country per 247Sports . He spent his first two years in Michigan backing up J.J. McCarthy and won a national championship ring in 2023, getting a few reps in their final few games.

With such a limited sample size as a passer, he may be hard-pressed to get a starting job in a power conference.

Where do you think Orji should transfer to?
