Michigan RB Donovan Edwards put up 991 yards and seven TDs with a partially torn patellar tendon

The Michigan Wolverines may just run across the entire Big Ten all the way to the College Football Playoffs in 2023.

Michigan will return perhaps the best one-two backfield punch in the nation next year. Blake Corum rushed 247 times for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, and that was including the fact that he got only two carries against Ohio State due to injury.

His backfield running mate, Donovan Edwards, rushed 140 times for 991 yards and seven touchdowns. Impressively enough, he recently revealed via ESPN that he did much of his damage while hurt.

We knew about Edwards's injured hand and the fact that he had to wear a cast, but he also revealed that he injured his patellar tendon in game two of the season against Hawaii.

"I always thought it's OK, tendinitis, it's a little achy," Edwards explained. "I found out against Hawai'i, I made that catch right at the goal line, put my knee back and it just didn't feel right. I found out it was partially torn and after that just continue to work around it."

"I got that fixed up, had surgery in February and just been rehabbing now," he continued. "I'm up to par now, running, cutting, doing all that good stuff. So, like that recovery wasn't going to take long, about four months to get full speed, three months for me to feel good."

Part of the reason Edwards could keep playing in 2022 was the fact that he was splitting time with Corum. Corum hurt his left knee on Nov. 19 against Illinois, but he is expected to be full-go this fall.

With both Corum and Edwards back to full health at the start of the season, it's easy to predict that a Michigan running attack that already ranked No. 5 in the entire county last season (238.93 rush yards per game) will be even better in 2023.
