Michigan State Linebacker Entering 2024 NFL Draft
USA TODAY Sports

At some point soon, new Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith will begin assembling next year's Spartans roster and get things headed in the right direction. But, as of now, MSU's roster continues to be stripped down to the bone.

On Tuesday, graduate senior linebacker Aaron Brule declared for the 2024 NFL Draft after two seasons at Michigan State. Unlike the plethora of transfer exits the Spartans have suffered this week, Brule is not a player who could have continued on in East Lansing under Smith. As a sixth-year senior, Brule had already exhausted his collegiate eligibiltiy.

Brule played two years with the Spartans after transferring from Mississippi State ahead of the 2022 season. He played in and started most of the 24 games for Michigan State over those two years, tallying 94 tackles including 15 for loss and nine sacks. Brule added three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

In four seasons at Mississippi State, Brule appeared in 40 games with the Bulldogs and totaled 141 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.

When Michigan State's season went off the rails following the suspension and eventual firing of former head coach Mel Tucker, Brule was one of the most vocal leaders in the Spartans' locker room. Brule helped interim head coach Harlon Barnett hold things together over the final 10 games of the 2023 season. While its a year most Spartan fans will want to forget, Brule should be remembered for his leadership and loyalty to Michigan State.
