Michigan State Sees Son Of Amazing NFL Legend Hit The Transfer Portal After Two Seasons With The Program
Nick King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK

Michigan State has undergone some changes in the last few months, the biggest being the hiring of Jonathan Smith as the new head coach.

Michigan State Needs To Get Back To Their Winning Ways

Michigan State has been one of the better programs in college football and even made the playoffs in 2015. However, the program has not met its standards in the last few years. Smith will have a lot on his plate to ensure he can get the program back to its winning ways, but he will have to do it without one of his soon-to-be top players because he decided to enter the portal on Monday.

Antonio Gates Was A NFL Legend

When you hear the name Antonio Gates, all you think about is the star tight end who had a long career for the San Diego and Los Angeles Chargers and was one of the best to do it at the tight end position.

Gates played with quarterback Philip Rivers, and they became one of the best quarterbacks and pass catchers duo in NFL history.

Antonio Gates Jr Is Leaving The Spartans

Gates also has a son who played football at Michigan State. His name is Antonio Gates Jr. He has been a wide receiver in the program since 2022, but according to On3.com Pete Nakos, he won’t be around much longer since he decided to enter the portal on Monday.

Gate’s Jr was redshirted in 2022 and then saw 12 games in 2023, with five receptions for 82 yards and a score.

Gates Jr. would play a significant role, but now he will no longer be in the program, so someone will have to step up to get Michigan State in the spot they want to be in.
