Anything interesting happen with the Michigan program over the last few months?
On the field, the program had its year to refurbish everything and get back up to speed.
Head coach Sherrone Moore has settled in, the Connor Stalions kerfuffle is all but done - with the Wolverines basically getting a stern finger wagging - and now it's time to start winning more football games.
New Mexico is really starting over, with Jason Eck coming in from Idaho to try to solidify the program. If it's anything more than a speedbump for Michigan to prep for the Oklahoma showdown next week, be happy.
Michigan vs New Mexico How To Watch
Date: Saturday, August 30, 2025
Game Time: 7:30 PM ET
TV: NBC
Location: Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
So what can the Lobos do to possibly keep this close?
It starts with generating lots of pressure, and Eck's defenses at Idaho were able to do that. It's one thing to get into an FCS backfield, and it's a whole other issue dealing with the Michigan offensive front.
It's all about pressuring the new guy under center as much as possible. Make 19 try to make throws that aren't there, force a few takeaways, rely on excellent running back Scottre Humphrey, and ...
Okay, Bryce Underwood. Let's do this.
Mikey Keene is a good veteran quarterback who should see plenty of work, but this is the game for the freshman super-recruit to get his feet wet in live action.
There's starting over, and there's New Mexico - it's trying to replace way too many parts to keep this competitive.
Run the ball first, mash away for Alabama transfer Justice Haynes, and then let the quarterbacks show that there might be some semblance of a passing game this year.
This will be over after a drive or two.
Again, this really will be all about finding a passing game that was painfully non-existent last season. It'll be okay if Underwood makes a few mistakes; the defense will clean up all the messes.
Everyone will be talking about the quarterbacks, but it'll be the 300 yards of rushing that gets the job done.
