Michigan is closing in on putting together a top ten class in the nation for the 2026 recruiting cycle. Sherrone Moore and his staff have won 14 recruiting battles since the start of June alone and now they're pushing to close yet another deal for an elite two-way four star recruit whose commitment date is fast approaching.

CJ Sadler down to a few schools ahead of August commitment

CJ Sadler, a highly touted four star recruit who plays his high school football just 40 minutes away from Michigan's football stadium is announcing his college football commitment on August 15th.

Every single Michigan fan should keep a close eye on this recruitment given Sadler's incredible skill set. Sadler won the MaxPreps High School Football Player of the Year award following his phenomenal 1000-yard receiving season combined with elite level defensive back play.

As his commitment date approaches his four finalist schools are his in-state interest of Michigan, North Carolina, Colorado, and Maryland. Where will this talented player land? And where could he fit with Michigan?

Battle for CJ Sadler and his fit with Michigan Wolverines

Most recruiting experts believe that this battle is really just down to two schools: North Carolina and Michigan. Colorado and Maryland have shown significant interest throughout his recruitment, with Maryland garnering an official visit to start the summer, but the Tar Heels or Wolverines look like they're in best position to seal the deal.

The Tar Heels were a bit of a late riser in the process and earned his final official visit, so some experts are leaning towards North Carolina for Sadler. However, Michigan is the one school that has been in on Sadler for nearly three years who is still in the running for his services. When it's all said and done, Sadler should lean towards Michigan.

There is some question as to which side of the ball Sadler would play for Michigan (or perhaps North Carolina), but given that Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has been the primary recruiter on him it seems offense is the lean. Michigan already has three defensive backs and three wide receivers in committed in their 2026 recruiting class, so there may be some concern with positional competition for Sadler, but frankly he's more explosive than any of the players already headed to Ann Arbor for next year.

If he does play defense he'll likely slide into nickel initially, with the option to play outside sparingly (given his smaller stature). If he plays offense, there's a real shot he earns significant gadget and slot snaps immediately as a true freshman because he would offer the most athletic skill set on that entire side of the ball for the Wolverines.

Hopefully Sherrone Moore and his staff can close on this special two-way talent, because five star quarterback Bryce Underwood could use another explosive weapon like Sadler.
