Michigan Wolverines Closing in on 2026 Coach
ASU Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham yells out to his team as they play against the Houston Cougars at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe on Oct. 25, 2025.

The Michigan Wolverines are dealing with a lot of issues over the last few years and are searching for a new coach to lead the program. There have been a few names that are floating around, but it appears that the school is closing in on one of their targets. Let’s take a closer look at who is the coaching they are reportedly closing in on.

Kenny Dillingham Going to Become the Next Michigan Wolverines Coach?

Reports are saying that the Michigan Wolverines are closing in on hiring Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham to lead the program. He would be replacing Sherrone Moore, who was fired earlier this month due to an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Dillingham has been a coach for three years with the Arizona State Sun Devils as he has gone 22-16, including a College Football Playoff appearance last season. He was also named the 2024 Big 12 Coach of the Year for his outstanding performance.

It appears that some major personalities are interested in Dillingham being the answer for the coach as while on Thursday’s episode of Barstool Pick Em, Dave Portnoy made it known he could get Dillingham to Ann Arbor.

“I’m telling you, if someone said, ‘You have the resources,’ I could get Kenny Dillingham in 24 hours. In 24 hours, he’d be the coach of Michigan.”

Well, it’s been 24 hours, and the reports are swirling now about the connection. Dillingham is an alumnus of Arizona State, so that also throws a bit of a wrinkle into this as well. It would be intriguing to see how Dillingham would do in a high-profile position like the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines.
