Michigan Wolverines dealt a major blow on offense with talented playmaker entering transfer portal
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Michigan Wolverines couldn't have everything go their way this offseason. Just after announcing their flip of four-star edge rusher Nick Marshall, it was announced that talented junior wide receiver Tyler Morris would enter the transfer portal.

Morris tied for first among Michigan wide receivers in catches this season and was second on the team in targets behind tight end Colston Loveland. Morris's two touchdowns led all wide receivers in touchdowns this season. His 248 receiving yards were also second on the team behind Loveland.

Most Michigan fans will remember Morris for his heroic touchdown against Alabama in last year's Rose Bowl.

Morris is a talented player with the ball in his hands and possesses very good speed. Unfortunately, the ball just didn't go his way enough this season given Michigan's scheme and inconsistent quarterback play. He was inarguably Michigan's best receiver this season, things just didn't work out.

He will finish his career with the Wolverines with 31 catches for 470 yards and three touchdowns. Hopefully, his next landing spot can find a way to get the ball in his hands more often than Michigan could.

What does this mean for the Wolverines wide receiver room next season? They will still likely have Semaj Morgan back next season, who finished third on the team in targets. Morgan was one of three Michigan wide receivers to catch a touchdown pass this season.

The Wolverines have practically zero production returning to their wide receiver room next season. Morgan was the only returning wide receiver to have more than 100 yards this season (134) and more than 10 catches (23). However, they are predicted to land Indiana transfer Donaven McCulley in the transfer portal, which should help.

They will need to add plenty more, however, if they are serious about competing in the Big Ten next season. This passing attack will need a serious makeover, especially if they want to make the most of Bryce Underwood.
