For several weeks now, it appeared that the Michigan Wolverines had become the clear leader for 2026 Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek safety Donovan Webb . Head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines staff had the last official visit, and reports all seemed positive that he would land in Ann Arbor when all the dust cleared.
Webb, in a somewhat surprising move, announced his commitment to Texas Tech on Wednesday. The Red Raiders had won out against finalists Michigan and Notre Dame, according to Webb.

Webb is considered to be a four-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite ranking, currently sitting as the No. 349 overall player, No. 30 safety, and No. 46 player in the state of Texas in the 2026 recruiting class. The On3 Industry ranking has him rated similarly, pegged as the No. 336 overall player and No. 36 safety in the class.
If those rankings don’t excite you about Webb, the offer list most likely will. Some of the top programs that have offered the Texas star so far include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas State, TCU, Houston, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Arizona, Baylor, Texas Tech, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt among others.
If that offer list doesn’t start to demand your attention, the film definitely will.
The 6-0, 182-pound safety was a dynamic player for Panther Creek as a junior. Webb managed to collect 120 total tackles, five interceptions, nine pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He also rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown while averaging 9.1 yards per carry. Webb also had two punt returns for touchdowns, showcasing his three-way impact on the high school level.
No matter what the reasoning is for the last minute change of heart for Webb, it is a huge win for Texas Tech to keep him in the Lone Star State. He is a very talented player that you managed to beat Michigan for.
