On Monday morning, the Michigan Wolverines announced a self-imposed punishment, suspending head coach Sherrone Moore for two games this season from the fallout of the Connor Stalions sign-reading scandal.
Breaking: Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is expected to be suspended for two games for the upcoming 2025 season as part of self-imposed sanctions by the university in regards to the Connor Stalions advanced scouting scandal, industry sources tell @DanWetzel and @PeteThamel.… pic.twitter.com/U8Xd0LYRp7

Michigan elected not to suspend Moore for the first two games of the season, New Mexico and at Oklahoma, as one normally does. Instead, they elected to suspend him for their Week 3 and 4 matchups against Central Michigan and Nebraska. According to TheWolverine, Michigan didn't want to suspend Moore for a return to his alma mater Oklahoma program. Call me unconvinced that they didn't want to suspend their head coach for a pivotal road game for that reason alone.
Moore will not be allowed to take part in any preparation for either of these Week 3 or 4 games. Additionally, some light recruiting punishments will also be administered to Moore, prohibiting him from some contact and/or a reduction in official visits allowed for a recruiting period.
Moore will be able to return to full duties following their Week 4 game against Nebraska, just as the Wolverines enter a bye week, giving him two weeks back with the team before their next game (Wisconsin). In his absence, it seems fairly likely that Biff Poggi will assume the mantle as interim head coach for the Wolverines while Moore is out.
All along, the Michigan program and Sherrone Moore have maintained their innocence in this scandal, and these self-imposed punishments are their way of cooperating with the NCAA's rather slow investigation into this matter.
More details and appeals are expected throughout this investigation, and many expect this could drag on for many more months and possibly another year as the NCAA sorts through all of the evidence and appeals.
For now, though, Michigan will settle on these punishments for Sherrone Moore as part of their method to appeal to the NCAA.
