The Michigan defense wasn't their usual dominant selves for the entirety of the 2024 season last year. Yes, the team had plenty of top tier NFL Draft talent in Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, and Will Johnson when he was healthy, but the secondary gave up far too many explosive plays.
Sherrone Moore knows his offense can't get any worse than it was last season with the mess at quarterback Wolverines endured, but the defense has to take a step back towards elite and sound on the back end if they want to compete. And not just this year. The foundation needs to continue building. That's where prioritizing the pursuit of highly touted four star defensive back recruits comes in here this summer.
Jordan Deck has to be one of the highest priority defensive recruits on the Michigan Wolverines recruiting board this cycle. While they weren't pursuing him very hard until late in the process it's clear that Deck is still surprisingly considering Michigan after a strong spring visit and an unofficial that he just rescheduled to make it work this June.
Deck will now officially be headed to Michigan the weekend of June 13-15 for one of his final visits in his busy string of action here this summer.
UPDATE: Jordan Deck's Michigan official visit is rescheduled for June 13th-15th, not June 6th-8th as reported previously

Jordan Deck looks like the perfect fit for the Michigan scheme as he brings elite level athleticism, length, and ball skills. Deck has defended more than 20 passes in the last two seasons and continues to prove he is a do-it-all win-from-anywhere kind of defensive back that could play right away for Michigan. And the Wolverines might need him too.
Veteran Rod Moore is returning for one more victory lap season after missing all of last year with an injury, so that should help Michigan take a huge step forward on the back end. Brandyn Hillman figures to be a big impact player this year, hopefully much improved as well. However, Brandyn Hillman and Rod Moore both could be gone after this year, leaving a massive opportunity for any incoming safeties to immediately step in.
Given Michigan's impressive recent track record of sending defensive backs to the NFL Draft, with four top 60 picks in the last four drafts alone, Deck certainly has good reason to go the Michigan to be developed. And if he can combine the likely development led by Sherrone Moore's incredible staff with early opportunity for significant snaps that might give Michigan the best pitch among all Deck's finalist schools. Let's hope Wolverines fans get some good news after his visit here soon.
