The Penn State football team continues to search for more weapons on the offensive side of the ball. So far, they’ve added former Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming. But in a perfect world, the more talent, the better. Now, two days removed from the National Championship, Michigan wide receiver Darrius Clemons has entered his name in the transfer portal. Can the Nittany Lions reunite with a prospect they were a finalist for in the 2022 cycle?

Former Michigan WR, Penn State target enters transfer portal

Darrius Clemons was a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player in Oregon in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247sports. For most of the 2022 cycle, the Penn State football team seemed like the team to beat for Clemons. But eventually, he had a change of heart and ultimately committed to Michigan. During his two seasons at Michigan, he accounted for 4 catches for 40 yards. Wednesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Clemons has entered the transfer portal.

How close were the Nittany Lions?

Let’s review his recruitment for those of you who forgot the battle Penn State was in for Clemons. The Nittany Lions offered the former four-star in April of 2020, then in June of 2021, he made his official visit to State College. Penn State was considered a finalist for Clemons all the way up until his commitment date.

The theme that we have seen James Franklin and his staff have throughout this offseason is reuniting with familiar faces. Players and families that the Nittany Lions know and can trust. Penn State needs more talent at WR, and Clemons needs a place to see significant playing time. If the coaching staff can get him back on campus, this could be a slam dunk.
