The Michigan Wolverines have already been decimated by opt-outs and NFL Draft declarations for their upcoming bowl game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
They were dealt what feels like a death knell on Friday with another key playmaker opting out.
Star running back (and arguably the season MVP) Kalel Mullings announced Friday evening he was declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft and would opt out of playing in the Reliaquest Bowl next week.

Mullings led the team in scrimmage yards and touchdowns this season, with close to 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns. In most of their games this season, he was the engine that kept the offense moving.
Against both USC and Ohio State, the two most important wins on Michigan's resume, Mullings was the MVP of the game, creating miracles out of plays seemingly destined for disaster.
With tight end Colston Loveland and running back Donovon Edwards opting out to focus on the 2025 NFL Draft and wide receiver Tyler Morris transferring, the Wolverines entered the day short on playmakers. The hope was to rely on Mullings continuing to do what he did all season long.
Now, Michigan's coaching staff will have to try and figure out something on offense without all of their best playmakers.

For a team that already struggled to do much throughout most of the 2024 season, losing almost all of their NFL-caliber talents feels like it might be too much to overcome in this one.
