Last month, the football world was shocked when former Florida State star quarterback Jordan Travis announced he was retiring from the NFL and stepping away from the New York Jets after one season.

Travis developed into a Heisman contender in garnet and gold but suffered a brutal leg injury late in 2023 that prematurely ended his college career. It also ended up altering the course of his life.

Over the last year and a half, Travis did everything he could to get back on the field. However, the injury just didn't respond the way he wanted, as he revealed in a message that detailed the news. Ultimately, Travis was advised by doctors and his medical team to hang up the cleats.

Travis has always possessed a special mindset with the ability to respond to adversity. This latest hurdle will be no different as he figures out his next chapter.

Naturally, there has been speculation that Travis will return to Florida State and join the coaching staff under head coach Mike Norvell. Travis has been a familiar face in town since ending his time with the program.

Norvell addressed the possibility during a recent Booster tour stop in Jacksonville. It sounds like if Travis wants to make the transition, the head coach will do everything in his power to make it happen.

"I think Jordan's going through obviously a tough time. This is a young man that put everything he had into his career, into our program," Norvell said according to News4Jax. "As he continues to work through what his next step is, I mean, obviously, we love him, he's like family to me. If that's the path that he wants to go, I'm going to work really hard to probably make sure that becomes a reality."

It would certainly be a cool moment if Travis does reunite with the Seminoles in some capacity. Someone with his drive and passion will always be an asset at Florida State.

The Florida native ended his time with the Seminoles as the all-time leader in total touchdowns (98), total yards of offense (10,665 yards), rushing yards by a QB (1,950 yards), and QB rushing touchdowns (31). He's the only player in program history to be ranked in the top 10 on the Seminoles' career passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns lists.

Travis finished his time in garnet and gold with 28 victories as the starting quarterback, tied for No. 2 on the all-time list with Chris Rix. He guided the Seminoles to back-to-back double-digit win campaigns for the first time since 2015-16 and helped the program climb out of one of the worst stretches in FSU history.

During his college career, Travis appeared in 49 games, with 38 starts, and completed 637/1,027 passes for 8,715 yards with 66 touchdowns to 20 interceptions. He also rushed 417 times for 1,950 yards with 31 more scores while adding three catches for 11 yards and a touchdown.

Strength the Key for Tyreak Sapp

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Florida Gators edge rusher Tyreak Sapp doesn't jump off film with a quick first step that blurs by opposing tackles, zooming into the backfield. Yet, the more you read and listen, the better impression he makes in the minds of many. For what Sapp doesn't have as a pass rusher, what he does bring to the table should give Florida an advantage that they need to seriously exploit as often as they possibly can. Being conditioned to naturally accept that pure athleticism translates into superstardom became a fool's pursuit. Running a quick 40-yard dash does not bring you any closer to success. Sapp isn't going to streak by anyone at all. However, it's not how you make the play; the matter of if you can make the stop supersedes everything else. Still, you see certain aspects that should make Sapp a great deal of money at the next level. Before that, he will use these skills to help Florida enjoy an even better year than last year. Despite hyperbole, the schedule feels much like last year. Yes, it's difficult, not impossible. Strength. Granted, you can measure aspects with the bench press. However, Sapp's power comes from a ground-up scale, using force to meet force. This week at a media availability, Sapp discussed his power. “I feel like, obviously, this summer, I'm probably in some of the best shape of my life, which is crazy, and then this summer, some of the credentials ... I put on 10 pounds of muscle mass," he said. "I've been this late in my career. It's not normal for guys to put on a lot of muscle mass this late ...because I got a lot of snaps. It's just harder for an older guy to put on all that muscle, and then I lost a few pounds of body fat.” Now, in what ways will this help Florida this year? First, he absolutely destroys the run game, setting the edge and stopping the run game cold. He makes life difficult for backs that want to get to the boundary. That becomes difficult when the offensive tackle cannot get much of a push and gets pushed back into your lap. For all of the foot speed and technique that many see Sapp missing, he compensates with hand placement and craftiness. In shedding a block, he brings power. Meanwhile, against the pass, you can see the swipe and chop techniques becoming prevalent. In the long run, that will serve him well during this season and beyond. Technique outlasts speed and twitchiness when the latter does nothing to improve. Sapp probably will not make your favorite analyst drool. Instead, he makes the most of his snaps. Through 995 of them as a Gator, what you see is what you get. More From Florida Gators on SI

Troubling update emerges about Joel Embiid’s health

Joel Embiid’s trust in the healing process may not be paying off. A concerning update emerged over the weekend about the health of the Philadelphia 76ers star center. Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that there is “genuine concern” around the league about the health of Embiid’s knee. Siegel adds that Philadelphia’s camp is attempting to downplay the concerns but notes that “word is bad” about Embiid’s health around the rest of the NBA. Now 31, the former MVP Embiid is still dealing with the ill effects of a torn left meniscus suffered during a 76ers game in February 2024. Embiid, who previously tore the same left meniscus back in 2017, quickly underwent surgery on the knee and missed two months. It appeared that everything was peaches and cream for Embiid after he returned to finish out the 2023-24 NBA season and even played at the 2024 Paris Olympics last summer as the starting center for Team USA. But Embiid missed significant time while managing his left knee throughout the 2024-25 season and even suggested at one point that he would need to have another surgery. In the end, Embiid appeared in just 19 total games for the 76ers last season and was shut down in February with the team nowhere close to contention. There was some talk a few months ago that Embiid might be undergoing the Kobe Bryant treatment to address the troublesome knee, but it looks like Embiid still hasn’t found a course of treatment that his knee is responding to. We know that the 76ers were already growing frustrated with Embiid’s lack of availability going back to last season. Now they may have to prepare for the potential of Embiid missing more time in 2025-26, a disastrous possibility given that they still owe the seven-footer an absurd $187.6M over the next three seasons.

‘Wants to end up in Boston’… Celtics still favorites to sign breakout star who will snub ‘last resort’

With training camps approaching in one month, the Boston Celtics could add an interesting player to their roster. This addition would provide depth to their center rotation, which remains a significant hole they need to address. Currently, the Boston Celtics’ center rotation includes Xavier Tillman, Luka Garza, and Neemias Queta. All three players either lack experience or consistent production, and none match the quality of their previous rotation featuring Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Luke Kornet. The potential addition doesn’t reach the caliber of Porzingis or Horford, and isn’t even close to Kornet’s level. However, there’s development potential given that he’s only 24 years old. Charles Bassey, the former San Antonio Spurs player who competed with the Celtics during last summer’s league, has emerged as the candidate in question. Bassey chooses NBA over European opportunity NBA insider Noa Dazzell reported that Bassey prefers playing for the Celtics next season rather than accepting an overseas offer with Partizan Belgrade in the Serbian League. “He’s not currently planning on going overseas, that seems to be pretty unlikely, and almost like a last resort type of thing. And right now, I think, you know, he feels pretty confident that he’s going to play in the NBA next season,” Dazzell explained. “He currently still views the Celtics as a top destination, and really, really wants to end up in Boston. And that’s not me saying that that’s going to happen, but that’s a top priority for him. He loves the culture. He loves the fact that they’ve been in the playoffs routinely. It’s a culture of winning, the coaches,” she added. Boston has roster spot available for potential signing The Celtics maintain one open roster spot that could accommodate Bassey’s addition. His summer league performance with Boston demonstrated his potential value to the organization. “He really wants to come to the Celtics. We’ll see whether it works out right now. Boston has one remaining roster spot that’s open,” Dazzell noted. Bassey’s summer league production included impressive numbers of 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. These statistics explain why other teams like Partizan Belgrade have shown interest in acquiring his services, as well as the fact that he is athletic rim‑runner with elite length and shot‑blocking instincts. His strong summer showing could translate to meaningful NBA contributions if he maintains his health and development trajectory. Injury history creates concern about reliability Bassey has struggled with health issues throughout his NBA career, frequently dealing with injuries that have limited his availability. His most significant setback came with an ACL injury in 2023 that restricted him to only 19 games that season. Last season with the Spurs, he appeared in 36 games while averaging modest numbers of 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game. The limited production reflects both his role and ongoing health challenges. His injury history raises questions about long-term reliability, but his youth and potential upside could make him worth the risk for a team who needs depth in the center area like Boston.

'Superman' VOD Home Streaming Date Confirmed and It's Shockingly Soon

In a move that seems faster than a speeding bullet, the new 2025 Superman movie will be available to watch at home just over a month after it hit theaters on July 11. According to multiple outlets, including World of Reel, the new Superman reboot movie will be available for video-on-demand (VOD) purchase starting very soon. In fact, the movie will almost certainly still be in theaters when you can watch it at home. Superman Streaming/VOD release date DC Studios' Superman, directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, will be available for purchase digitally starting on August 15, 2025. This means that just over 30 days after its first theatrical release, the new Superman is coming home. To be clear, this is not the same as streaming on HBO Max, but it does mean you'll be able to pony up a certain amount of money (close to the price of two movie tickets) to watch the movie at home. Purchase of VOD movies generally happens on iTunes, Amazon, and other platforms. DC vs. Marvel VOD releases If this home video release seems quick, it is. For comparison, the last two Marvel superhero movies had nearly two months, not one, between theatrical release and VOD release. Thunderbolts* hit theaters on May 2, and was on VOD on July 1. Meanwhile, Captain America: Brave New World was in theaters on February 14, and on VOD on April 15. Both of those films were deemed, in the eyes of box office pundits, to be failures, while Superman is generally considered to be a success.
