It’s as strong a trophy as there is in college football. It’s the bronze pig known as Floyd of Rosedale, and Iowa has won it in nine of the last ten years.

The Hawkeyes dunked on Wisconsin, slipped past Penn State, and with Oregon and a trip to USC up next, they can’t afford a loss here if they realistically want to stay in the Big Ten Championship hunt.

Minnesota played one of its better games in the PJ Fleck era with a 24-6 win over Nebraska. This starts a run of three road games in four dates, and going to Oregon won’t be easy, but for now, just taking home the pig for the second time in three years would be enough.

Why Minnesota Will Win

Can the lines play like they did against Nebraska?

It was one of the first times this season that the Gophers looked and played like their normal selves under PJ Fleck. The O line pounded away, and quarterback Drake Lindsey hit just about everything.

On the other side, the defensive front didn’t allow a thing, and Dylan Raiola and the Nebraska attack looked and played lost.

Iowa might have a little more offensive pop now, but it still all starts with the ground game that has to keep everything under control.

The two times it lost this year were when it came up with the two worst rushing performances, failing to get to 160 yards in either game.

Minnesota only allowed more than 140 yards once.

Why Iowa Will Win

It’s not like going to Berkeley distance-wise, and it certainly isn’t like having to deal with that Buckeye team in Columbus, but going to Iowa City is hard enough.

Minnesota, this year, doesn’t travel well. The Ohio State loss was forgivable - it’s Ohio State - but the Cal performance might show up against the Hawkeyes.

The Gophers weren’t bad, but the running game couldn’t take over, and two turnovers and eight penalties were a killer - they kept shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.

Those were, by far, the most times they were flagged this year, and it was the only game with multiple giveaways.

Iowa has forced five takeaways in the last two games, it never loses the penalty battle, and …

Minnesota vs Iowa Prediction, Betting Lines

The Hawkeyes have won nine of the last ten in the series, and it would’ve been ten in a row if not for a flag on a Cooper DeJean punt return.

It’s about the field position battle, and they’re both great on special teams. It’ll come down to the big mistakes, and neither team makes mistakes.

It’ll be a close, low-scoring blast of a game, with both teams hanging around right up until Iowa comes up with one big play to survive.
