Mock draft suggests QBs could fly off the board during 2024 NFL Draft

Quarterbacks could fly off the board faster than ever during the 2024 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Matt Miller has four quarterbacks going in the top seven of the upcoming draft, which would be the fastest that many quarterbacks were selected in the common draft era.

The 2018 draft set the mark for the quickest four quarterbacks were drafted when Josh Rosen, the fourth quarterback picked, was taken at No. 10 overall.

The top two quarterbacks in Miller's mock draft, USC's Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall and North Carolina's Drake Maye at No. 2, aren't a surprise. It also isn't too shocking to see the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, LSU's Jayden Daniels' draft stock soar with the Giants selecting him fourth overall.

The most unexpected development is Michigan's J.J. McCarthy going No. 7 to the Raiders. As Miller notes, "The Michigan scheme does him no favors in terms of statistics," but that might not have any bearing on his draft stock. "NFL scouts continue to tell me that McCarthy will be drafted earlier than expected," he continued.

If four quarterbacks are selected in the first round, it would be the 11th occurrence at least that many quarterbacks were drafted in the first round during the Super Bowl era.

Five quarterbacks were chosen in 1999 (Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper, Cade McNown), 2018 (Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson) and 2021 (Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones).

The most quarterbacks selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in the Super Bowl era was six in 1983 (John Elway, Todd Blackledge, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, Ken O'Brien, Dan Marino).
