From Boulder to the ‘Burgh: Montana Lemonious-Craig’s Unfinished Story

In a sea of five-star headlines, one former Colorado Buffalo just quietly broke through, and Buff Nation should take notice.

Montana Lemonious-Craig, the former CU wideout who once electrified Folsom Field, has officially signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after impressing at rookie minicamp. It’s a moment that feels long overdue, especially for Buffs fans who remember his 98-yard touchdown during Coach Prime’s 2023 spring game debut. It was a play that lit up Boulder and lit the fuse for a new era.

That same game also marked the beginning of a puzzling departure. Just one day later, Lemonious-Craig entered the transfer portal, leaving fans and insiders alike stunned. He would finish his college career at Arizona, where the production never matched the Boulder days: 296 yards and 3 TDs in 2023, followed by under 200 receiving yards in 2024. Yet even then, he left a mark, posting 67 yards and a clutch third-down grab in his return to Folsom.

Now, he lands in Pittsburgh, arguably the perfect home for an overlooked but skilled receiver. Head coach Mike Tomlin has a proven track record of developing under-the-radar wideouts into stars. Just ask Antonio Brown or Diontae Johnson. Lemonious-Craig joins a WR corps with opportunities behind Pro Bowler DK Metcalf and rookie Roman Wilson.

Standing 6-foot-2 with a knack for route precision and clutch grabs, Lemonious-Craig has the tools to make noise at camp. And for a guy who didn’t get drafted, didn’t get a UDFA deal right away, and still earned a contract through sheer grit? That says a lot.

Buffs fans may still feel a sting from his transfer, but this is a win worth celebrating. Lemonious-Craig represented Colorado with heart during its darkest football days. Who remembers the 119 yards and game-winner vs. Cal in 2022? Now, he’s carrying that same underdog spirit into the NFL.

Will he make the 53-man roster? That story’s still being written. But one thing’s clear: Pittsburgh just picked up a player who knows how to rise.
