2026 quarterback recruiting has been interesting to monitor for the Oklahoma Sooners. They received an early commitment from Mustang (Okla.) High School star signal caller Jaden O’Neal. The Sooners won out against a long and impressive offer list that included Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Miami, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Auburn among many others.
In theory, that was a massive win for head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma staff. Being set at the quarterback position is huge in a recruiting class, but there is a very unsettled feeling. A big reason for that is the Sooners continued push for top-100 Celina (Texas) High School standout Bowe Bentley.
That is one of the several reasons that has On3 vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong predicting O’Neal to end elsewhere. On the On3 Recruits YouTube channel, they played a game called “Stick or Flip.” Wiltfong gave his latest on O’Neal and the Sooners.
“My gut says flip for a number of reasons,” Wiltfong said. “First and foremost, Oklahoma is all in on Bowe Bentley. That is not a given that they are going to land him because LSU is very much a contender but just the way it has kind of played out, and maybe it has already happened, but I almost think you have to re-recruit Jaden O'Neal. There are just other programs that have been genuine all the way through so they have a shot.”
With the Sooners’ push for Bentley, it appears that O’Neal has been preparing and looking at other options out there. He took an unofficial visit to Florida State back in April, and will be taking an official trip to Tallahassee on June 15-17. Georgia is another team that has gotten involved as well, offering back in January originally.
O’Neal is currently rated as a four-star player on the 247Sports Composite ranking, sitting as the No. 204 overall player, No. 14 quarterback, and No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma in the 2026 recruiting class. The 6-3, 215-pound passer is also ranked similarly on the On3 Industry ranking, pegged at the No. 231 overall player and No. 16 player in the class.
