National outlet says Boo Carter has interest in two of Tennessee Vols' biggest rivals as transfer portal destinations

The Tennessee Volunteers and Boo Carter are going their separate ways moving forward, with the latter announcing on Twitter (X) his intention to enter the transfer portal. It was a move that felt eventual given the bizarre drama surrounding Carter and the team going back to before the season, when Carter had to earn his way back on the team after missing offseason activities.

However, this might not be the last time we see Carter and Tennessee sharing a football field. Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports posted on Sunday that Carter's camp informed them they are interested in a number of schools in the portal, and among them are Alabama and Kentucky.

In case anyone forgot, the Crimson Tide and the Wildcats are two of the three schools who Tennessee will play annually moving forward in the SEC's new 3-6 scheduling model from 2026 onward. The Vols' other permanent opponent is Vanderbilt.

That means if Carter ends up in Tuscaloosa or Lexington, that could mean the Vols would get to welcome their old teammate back to Neyland Stadium in 2026, as Tennessee hosts both Alabama and Kentucky next season.

If it ends up being Alabama, that wouldn't be the first time that a former Vol-turned-Crimson-Tide would be coming to Neyland (both Alabama and Kentucky play in Knoxville in 2026). LB Henry To'oTo'o left Tennessee for Alabama after the 2020 season and played two seasons for the Crimson Tide. He was a part of the 2022 team that fell to the Vols 52-49 at Neyland Stadium, something Vol fans have relished on social media since the win.

There's no certainty that Carter will end up at either school, as there are a number of non-SEC schools listed as being of interest as well. But if he does end up at either rival and back in Neyland Stadium, the reception from the fans should be...let's say, noteworthy.
