Matt Rhule has been determined to bring this program back to their glory days, and so far, he's done that. The Nebraska Cornhuskers may not be an elite program again, yet, but they are on their way.
You can see that statement rings true in the reflection of how they played last season compared to the season before that. And the 2025 season could be even better.
The Huskers are also showing that in some of the recruiting they are doing. Recently, they landed a three-star tight end who they believe may be better than what these recruiting sites are ranking him.
Luke Sorensen, a standout tight-end prospect from the 2026 class, hails from Servite High School in Anaheim, California. His impressive performance on the field has attracted attention from numerous college programs, driven by his imposing physical attributes. Standing at 6'4" and weighing between 230 and 245 pounds, Sorensen combines size with unexpected athleticism.
He holds a three-star rating from 247Sports, where he ranks as the No. 54 tight end and No. 140 overall player in California, while Rivals awards him four stars, placing him as the No. 19 tight end and No. 32 player in the state. With over 25 scholarship offers, top programs such as Nebraska, Penn State, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, USC, Notre Dame, and Alabama are vying for his commitment.
Sorensen has narrowed his options to three schools—Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Penn State. He visited Ole Miss in May 2025 and has scheduled official visits to Nebraska on June 6 and Penn State on June 13. And of course, he ended up going with Nebraska this week.
Recruiters are particularly impressed by his versatility, physicality, and willingness to be coached, qualities that make him a valuable asset. Nebraska, in particular, could end up being a really good fit, especially given the opportunity to pair Sorensen with quarterback Dylan Raiola, who has yet to have a weapon of Sorensen’s caliber in the Huskers’ offense.
