Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers notched a big recruiting win on Thursday, landing a commitment from four-star quarterback prospect Trae Taylor.
Taylor ranks as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 35 overall recruit in the nation's 2027 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. The 6-foot-3 signal caller out of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois chose to commit to Nebraska over his other top options: Texas A&M, LSU and Illinois.
During his commitment announcement on a 247Sports.com livestream, Taylor first put on an Illinois hat before tossing it off to the side.
“Committing to Nebraska is amazing but I still need to prove why I am the best player in 2027 this year," Taylor said after his commitment decision.

Taylor is excited about his upcoming partnership with co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas. The high school sophomore spent time with Thomas and Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola during his unofficial visit this past weekend.
"Sitting down with Coach Thomas and getting into the offense, seeing how he coaches Dylan and how he can prepare me for the next level -- I really just can't wait," Taylor said, via ESPN. "For me, it's kind of hard committing too early because I have to wait so long to get there."
Taylor threw for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his sophomore season at Carmel Catholic. He took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M a few days after his trip to Lincoln.
"The day after I got home from A&M, I was in contact with one of Coach Rhule, Coach Thomas and Dylan [Raiola] every day for the next two weeks before I decided this was where I needed to be," Taylor added. "Everybody in that building has made it clear that they want me. Their offense fits me the best -- very pro-style. Any quarterback who wants to go to the NFL can be successful there."
Nebraska will kickoff its 2025 college football campaign with a matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Aug. 28.
