Nebraska fires defensive coordinator Erik Chinander after blowout loss to Oklahoma

On Saturday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers fell to 1-3 on the season after a 49-14 blowout loss to the Oklahoma Sooners.

A week after firing head coach Scott Frost, Nebraska decided to make another change.

On Sunday, interim head coach Mickey Joseph announced that defensive coordinator Erik Chinander had been relieved of his duties.

"We appreciate Erik and the work and dedication he has given to our football program," Joseph said in a press release. "At this time, I feel it is in the best interest of the Nebraska Football program to take the leadership of the defense in another direction and decided Bill Busch will take over as defensive coordinator."

Busch, Nebraska's special teams' coordinator, will take over the defensive coordinator role for the Cornhuskers. A defensive analyst for Nebraska last season, Busch has over 30 years of coaching experience, spending time with Wisconsin, LSU, and Ohio State.

Under Chinander, opponents averaged 35.5 points per game against Nebraska. On the year, the Cornhuskers have given up 142 points over four games.

After the bye week, Nebraska will resume its schedule on Oct. 1, hosting Indiana. The Hoosiers are undefeated, averaging 30.3 points per game in wins over Illinois, Idaho, and Western Kentucky.
