Nebraska football will host five transfer portal targets this week, plus the Huskers also extended a trio of new in-state offers in 2025.

There is plenty of transfer portal buzz surrounding Nebraska football. The Huskers are slated to host a total of five transfer portal targets this week.

The headliner is still former Oregon running back and four-star recruit Dante Dowdell. Nebraska football needs a big-time player at the position and Dowdell would qualify after being ranked in the top 200 overall, as well as among the top-10 running backs in his class by all the recruiting services.

Dowdell would be the perfect addition. But running back isn’t the only need. It’s clear that the Huskers view wide receiver and linebacker as need spots too. Some new targets have also emerged as Isaiah Neyor, the former Texas and Wyoming wideout, will visit, along with former Syracuse linebacker Stefon Thompson, who previously played for DC Tony White.

Former Wake Forest wideout Jahmal Banks is also visiting Nebraska football. Yet, he visited Michigan on Wednesday too. Xe’Ree Alexander — the former Idaho linebacker — is also visiting. He would have three years of eligibility remaining and it makes me wonder if that would tempt the Huskers into taking him and Thompson at the linebacker spot.

I remain skeptical about the Huskers landing two wide receivers in the transfer portal. The numbers seem tight, but if they can make it work, more power to them, because Banks and Neyor would each be solid additions.

Breaking down new in-state offers in 2025

Matt Rhule already has commitments from three of the top recruits in the state for the 2025 class. Nebraska football is also pushing hard for linebacker Christian Jones, as well as tight end Chase Loftin.

However, the Huskers made it clear this week that they are looking for another big in-state class following offers to a trio of 2025 in-state recruits: LB Pierce Mooberry, wide receiver Jackson Carpenter, and also tight end Remain Zebert.

None of them are ranked according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings yet. Mooberry is listed as a three-star via 247 Sports own rankings. He also got a crystal ball projection to Nebraska after his offer on Wednesday.
