Nebraska football was in the mix for Michigan State transfer Jaden Mangham, but the safety who had four interceptions last season, chose Michigan over the Huskers.

The decision was announced on Friday. Mangham, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back visited last week. He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten and had two years of eligibility. He was also credited with 53 tackles and four interceptions last season for the Spartans.

Mangham would have been an interesting piece to add to the secondary, especially considering the depth at safety. You can never have enough quality defensive backs though. Nebraska learned that lesson in 2023, when it was loaded with depth, but hit with numerous injuries.

Still, with Isaac Gifford, Malcolm Hartzog (corner and safety) Marques Buford, Deshon Singleton, and others, safety isn’t a position I’m overly concerned about. Adding Mangham would have freed up Hartzog to focus more on cornerback, which would have been nice, but it was more of a luxury than a necessity.

Nebraska fooball favored to land 2025 EDGE Michael Riles

Things are picking up for Nebraska football at the EDGE position in the 2025 class. Nicholas Clayton was just on campus for an official visit last week.

Now, Nebraska football is expected to host four-star EDGE Michael Riles for an official visit in June. At 6-foot-2, 235-pound out of Port Arthur, Texas, Riles is ranked No. 251 overall according to the On3 industry rankings in the 2025 class.

Nebraska football also has a 53.2 percent chance to land his commitment according to the On3 prediction machine. Texas, Houston, and Texas A&M are also in the mix but the Huskers are the only team with an official visit scheduled. If it remains that way, you can feel good about their chances.

At the very least, it’s another name to be aware of for fans of Nebraska fooball recruiting.
