There is a heated competition for the commitment of transfer quarterback Will Howard but Nebraska football is in the mix.

As soon as Kansas State quarterback Will Howard entered the transfer portal, you could see the dreams forming in the minds of Nebraska football fans.

While there are plenty of candidates out there in the transfer portal at the quarterback position, Will Howard seems to be the consensus choice among fans and apparently, coaches.

According to a report from Derek Young of On3, Nebraska is one of the programs that has visited Howard, but there have been plenty of others. USC head coach Lincoln Riley visited Howard too, plus he has met with Miami and Wisconsin.

Howard is ranked as the No. 2 overall player according to the On3.com transfer portal rankings. Howard is right behind Cameron Ward in the rankings and would be a huge addition.

Playing at Kansas State, Howard led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship in 2022. He also threw 24 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions this past season for the 8-4 Wildcats. Beyond that, Howard is a dual-threat quarterback with two seasons of more than 350 rushing yards and 19 career rushing touchdowns.

The attention he’s getting will probably increase the longer that he’s in the transfer portal as other teams like Florida State and Michigan could be in the market for a transfer quarterback as well.

It remains to be seen how serious a contender the Huskers are for Howard, especially with the NIL factor. But it’s good to see Nebraska active in their pursuit of a big-time quarterback, which is the team’s biggest need heading into the offseason.
