The Nebraska Cornhuskers will be down one kicker for the 2025 season, as Nico Ottomanelli has entered the transfer portal with four years of eligibility.
Ottomanelli announced his decision on social media on Tuesday.
"I would first like to thank God for allowing me to play the game that I love. I would also like to thank Coach Rhule, Coach Foley, Coach Martin, and Brett Maher for giving me an opportunity to be part of Nebraska Football. I am grateful for all my memories, teammates, and coaches that I have come across throughout my time here. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility left," Ottomanelli posted.
A New Jersey native, Ottomanelli redshirted during the 2024 season, not playing in a game. He arrived in Nebraska after a successful high school career. He was ranked the No. 1 kicker in the state while playing for Northern Valley Regional, going 14 of 17 on field goals throughout his career.
Ottomanelli's departure leaves Huskers' kicking situation in an interesting pace heading into the 2025 season. Nebraska's current kicker room includes Tristan Alvano, John Hohl and punter Kamdyn Koch. Combined they made 13 of 19 field goals last season.
Hohl went 10-15 last season. Alvano made 9 of 15 during in 2023.
With spring camp wrapping up, Ottomanelli becomes the second player to depart Nebraska via the transfer portal during the offseason. Redshirt freshman defensive back D'Andre Barnes entered the portal on April 22.
