Today, Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan Wolverines landed a new commitment from the transfer portal: Maryland linebacker Jaishawn Barham, the first Michigan football transfer in the 2024 cycle. With Junior Colson potentially leaving, this was a fantastic win for the Wolverines’ defense heading into next season; in fact, this new LB commit is already one of the biggest players in his room.

New Michigan football transfer commit is huge

Per Maryland’s team site, Michigan football transfer portal commit Jaishawn Barham is a massive sophomore linebacker right now. He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs in close to 235 pounds, making him one of the biggest Wolverine linebackers right off the bat.

Being 6-foot-4, Jaishawn Barham will be taller than all of Michigan’s linebackers except one: freshman LB Jack McKinnon, who stands at 6-foot-4 as well. Additionally, Barham weighing 233 pounds puts him among Michigan’s heavier linebackers, though he remains lighter than Junior Colson, who weighs over 240 pounds.

More background on Michigan’s latest transfer portal commit: Jaishawn Barham

As a Maryland Terrapin, this new Michigan transfer recorded nearly 100 tackles, seven sacks, an interception, and more over his two seasons in the Big Ten thus far. He was a four-star prospect out of high school, ranking as the No. 130 player nationally and the No. 11 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2022.

While Jaishawn Barham is the first Michigan football transfer commit in this class, don’t expect him to be the last, and the Wolverines have more team needs to fill in order to remain competitive for titles in 2024.
