New Tennessee Vols wide receiver Amari Jefferson, who transferred from Alabama to UT earlier this month, grew up playing football with and against Volunteers defensive back Boo Carter.
Carter and Jefferson are both from Chattanooga.
On Thursday, Jefferson joined Off the Hook Sports to discuss his decision to transfer to Tennessee and he dropped a quote about Carter that Vols fans will love (even though it's something that UT fans are already well aware of).
"Man, Boo's a dog," said Jefferson when asked to describe Carter's personality. "He's been a dog since we were younger. I can remember when he played with Harrison and I played with East Hamilton and then we moved over to another league and he played with the Chiefs, I played with the Bills, we were always meeting in the championship and stuff. It was always like 'man, why do I always see this one guy in the championship' and just stuff like that. So I'd really just say, man, Boo a dog. He don't back down from anybody. And he's always been that way. He's gonna get what's his. He's going to work as hard as he possibly can to do that."
Jefferson's quote about Carter lines up with what Vols secondary coach Willie Martinez said last spring.
"Boo is explosive," said Martinez last spring. "Boo, you put him in any kind of drill and he’s going to show up. He’s so athletic. He’s quick. He’s got great instincts....he’s a very competitive player, [he] wants to win on every play. That’s what you love about [Boo]."
Vols fans will get to see that dog mentality from Carter on the offensive side of the ball in 2025 as he's expected to be a two-way player for Tennessee next fall.
