NFL Draft 2024 Update: Luke McCaffrey Overcomes Brother’s Amazing Combine Performance

Sports Al Dente’s Ritik wrote about the younger McCaffrey brother’s outstanding performance in the combine and his brother’s reaction to beating his record:

At the NFL Combine, where scouts flock to witness emerging talent, Luke McCaffrey seized the opportunity to race against his brother, the San Francisco 49ers’ running back, in the 40-yard dash.

To the surprise of many, Luke emerged victorious, edging out his NFL star brother by a mere 0.01 of a second, clocking in at 4.47 seconds compared to Christian’s 4.48.

However, Christian graciously acknowledged his brother’s achievement, taking to social media to commend him.

The 40 numbers of the brothers are eerily similar, which should clue scouts into the incredible genes celebrated WR Ed McCaffrey shared with his brood.

Luke McCaffrey started his college career with Nebraska in the Big Ten as quarterback. However, his career didn’t pan out with the Cornhuskers, only passing for 608 passing yards, three touchdowns, six interceptions before transferring to Rice.

He gave QB one more shot in 2021, but his numbers were similar in his first year there. It was then that he decided to give it another shot as a WR/RB hybrid like his brother.

It was this jump that allowed him to become an elite college player with a real chance of making the NFL. During his final year with Rice at the AAC, he finished with 1109 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns.

Draft Network identified McCaffrey as a viable vertical-seam runner, and he has showcased similar rushing instincts that are evident with his brother.

He may be a part of a stacked wide receiver class, but he’s shown enough to make teams convinced of his ability. If he’s half as good as his brother, there’s no way teams will allow him to make it to the latter rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.
