Penn State quarterback Drew Allar’s NFL Draft stock is far different less than one month from the 2026 NFL Draft, than he had been viewed for much of his collegiate career.
Allar arrived in Happy Valley as the consensus No. 1 high school quarterback in his recruiting class, but never quite lived up to those expectations. Even after a stellar 2024 season, leading the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoff Semifinals, there was some buzz about him being a potential top-15 pick last spring.
As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, and following a decent showing at his Pro Day that came on the heels of an injury-shortened but disappointing 2025 campaign, Allar may need to wait until Saturday of NFL Draft weekend to hear his name called.
ESPN put together a list of what every team is most likely to do, at some point during the NFL Draft, including suggesting that the ideal spot for the New York Jets to select a quarterback is in the fourth round, with Allar being that quarterback.
“Fourth,” ESPN’s Rich Crimini writes. “Keep an eye on Drew Allar (Penn State), who recently had a private workout at the Jets’ facility. He’s a developmental prospect with great size (6-foot-5, 228 pounds) and arm strength.”
Allar would make a lot of sense for the Jets, who put him through a full workout, days after his Pro Day showcase in Happy Valley.
In an environment where Geno Smith is entrenched as the starter, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich boasting a reputation of developing quarterbacks, New York could be an ideal destination for Allar to mold his game and develop into a starting quarterback at some point down the line in his career, as well.
