Ohio State is set up to be well-represented in the 2025 NFL Draft next month. The Buckeyes had 15 prospects invited to the NFL Scouting Combine last week and could see that many drafted.
One player that is going to go rather early is Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson could have turned pro last year, but returning to Columbus helped his draft stock and he won a National Championship in the process.
NFL draft analyst Todd McShay believes that Henderson could have a quick impact like another young star in the NFL.
“I just can’t stop thinking about TreVeyon Henderson in a Jahmyr Gibbs-type role in the NFL,” Todd McShay said in a recent video he posted on X.
Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson can be to an NFL backfield something similar to what Jahmyr Gibbs is to the Lions. #nfl #NFLDraft #NFLDraft2025 pic.twitter.com/Xp7He1DaSj

Gibbs was selected No. 12 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and immediately had a big impact. While splitting touches with David Montgomery, Gibbs had 945 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. Gibbs is a player who brings a big burst of explosive ability when he gets the rock, similar to Henderson.
In 2024, Gibbs took over as the main guy in Detroit and he ran for 1,412 yards and 16 touchdowns. At any given time, the former Alabama standout can take it the distance. That is the same style of play that Henderson can bring, just think of the Cotton Bowl against Texas when he went 75 yards just before halftime.
Henderson is expected to hear his name called in the second round of the draft. The talented Ohio State standout cleared 1,000 yards rushing twice in his college career and in 2204 he did it while Quinshon Judkins also crossed the 1,000-yard mark.
The ability to be a three-down back and a strong pass blocker is going to help Henderson have a long NFL career barring any injury. McShay’s idea of Henderson being in the same mold as Gibbs is not far-fetched at all.
