Shedeur Sanders has made the most of his opportunity in Cleveland. The Browns fifth-round pick has looked impressive during OTAs and is making a run at moving up the depth chart.
But we all knew Deion Sanders wouldn't stay silent about his son's draft slide forever. The Colorado Buffaloes coach made his first public comments about Shedeur going as a Day 3 pick on Asante Samuel's 'Say What Needs to Be Said' podcast. Sanders even touched on some of the pre-draft process with teams saying 'Grown' was "unprepared" for meetings.
"You have no idea and stop lying. My kids are built for everything, Sanders said. “We had two TV shows, so they’ve always been in front of the camera. So, I know they know how to handle themselves. And you’re not going to catch them in no foolery or no mess. So, when you sit up there and say something like he went in a meeting unprepared?
"Dude? Like who? Shedeur Sanders? Who had six different coordinators. Who has still functioned and leveled up every time we brought someone new in and you’re gonna tell me he was unprepared? You’re gonna tell me he had on headphones? Anyone who knows my son understands he’s a professional. He’s gonna go to a meeting with headphones on? Y’all, come on man.”
Sanders followed up his comments with a video of his son throwing a touchdown pass in Wednesday's practice. This forced Terrell Owens to throw a subtle shot at NFL teams. “Well, if he wasn’t prepared, it looks like he’s prepared now!!!," Owens wrote on Instagram.
Shedeur Sanders finished his second three-touchdown practice on Wednesday. This came after limited reps in the 'pod system' the Browns are working with. He'll compete with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel for reps. Sanders’ strong work ethic and professional demeanor have been evident since landing in Cleveland. The former All-American has embraced the challenge, but he’s low on the depth chart and remains an unknown commodity.
Browns mandatory minicamp starts on June 10th.
