Like many NFL fans, Kyle Brandt is tired of the never-ending scrutiny surrounding Shedeur Sanders.
The news cycle has fixated on the Colorado quarterback ahead of this week's NFL Draft. Mock drafts and betting markets have indicated a stock drop in the first round, and it's fair to wonder if criticism from unnamed sources has fueled the perceived dip.
Earlier this offseason, Josina Anderson skeptically relayed an NFL quarterbacks coach calling Sanders "brash" and "arrogant." On Tuesday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero passed along comments from an anonymous longtime assistant coach who claimed Sanders conducted "the worst formal interview I've ever been in in my life."
"He's so entitled," the coach said of Sanders. "He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. ... But the biggest thing is, he's not that good."
Brandt fired back at the coach during Wednesday's Good Morning Football.
"Shut up, anonymous coach. I am so triggered by this," Brandt said. "Shut up. This is not only anonymous, I think it's tasteless. I think the timing is ridiculous. 'The worst formal interview I've ever…' Is it really? Is it? Or are you just going for a headline?"
Brandt wondered if the interview turned sour because Sanders sensed animosity from a coach who created a hostile environment.
"And maybe he was right," Brandt continued. "Because the first second you could, you betrayed the sanctity of that room and went anonymously and started spouting off about this player."
The NFL Network analyst suggested that Sanders isn't the entitled one.
"I see entitlement in a grown professional who's going around anonymously destroying young athletes with very personal quotes, anonymously, as they're about to realize their dreams and become professionals," Brant said. "Do not listen to that quote. That quote is bullcrap."
Brant dismissed the anonymous coach's "nonsense" and "garbage" comments. Furthermore, he encouraged everyone to pay more attention to what teammates and those in Sanders' orbit say about him.
"Don't listen to this," Brant implored. "He said, 'He’s not that good.' Well, maybe neither are you, anonymous quote coach. And maybe that's why you're an assistant coach and not a head coach, and you have been for a long time."
