The Cleveland Browns traded up to select Shedeur Sanders with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. It was a move that has sparked a ton of media attention since the draft concluded.
While some believe that Sanders could become the long-term franchise quarterback for the Browns, others aren't so sure that he'll even make the 2025 roster.
Sanders will be fighting for a roster spot in a room that currently has five quarterbacks. Outside of Sanders, Cleveland has Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett on the roster.
Should the Browns choose to not keep Sanders in town, they could either cut or trade him. Those are options being thought and speculated about by the media.
Drew Bishop of The Sporting News has suggested a scenario where Sanders would be traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars to reunite with former Colorado teammate Travis Hunter, who was drafted No. 2 overall.
"Sanders could also head to Jacksonville to team back up with Travis Hunter. Nick Mullens is the backup to Trevor Lawrence for the Jaguars," Bishop wrote.
Seeing Sanders and Hunter team up again in the NFL would be an awesome situation for Colorado fans. However, the young quarterback would be locked in behind Trevor Lawrence.
There are many worse scenarios that could come up for him, but this wouldn't be ideal.
Heading into training camp and preseason action, Sanders is going to be one of the most watched and talked about players in the NFL. He has a lot of work to do to make the roster and work his way onto the field with Cleveland, but he seems to be embracing that challenge.
Should he be made available for trade before the season, the Jaguars could very well be a team to keep an eye on.
