No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 2 Tennessee: Can Tennessee win two 'Games of the Year?'

We had a feeling that Tennessee was on the upswing coming into the season. Then they beat Alabama a couple of weeks ago, in dramatic fashion, forcing us to consider that the Vols might just be the best team in the SEC. Maybe even the nation (if they win this week).

That might be sacrilege with the Dawgs sitting there with a perfect record too but that is why they play the games, right? This week we get a chance to enjoy two undefeated teams at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The winner seems pretty close to being assured a spot in the College Football Playoffs, while the loser could still get in there for a rematch with some help.

Right now we are seeing an overwhelming majority of the market on the side of the Volunteers. That makes sense with them getting the points and having made a lot of folks some money in the most exciting game of the year.

In terms of recent series history, Georgia has won the last five against Tennessee, with a 4-1 ATS record over that stretch. They were favored in all of those five games. The last time the Vols beat the Dawgs was in 2016. The spread in that game was just -3.5 in that one.

Georgia vs. Tennessee Betting Preview

Tennessee Volunteers at Georgia Bulldogs
Spread: Georgia -8.5
Total: 65.5

Tennessee is the best offensive team in the country this season. They are first in yards per game and scoring. QB Hendon Hooker has really thrived since taking over the role last season and is a dual threat. Not only is Tennessee prolific but they are explosive as well. That is a critical factor against Georgia. You are not going to beat the Dawgs by gaining 4-5 yards a play and not making mistakes. You need to create big plays and Tennessee has proven they can do that.

OddsChecker prediction, pick, odds

The biggest game of the regular season is here as No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Tennessee face off. This game is sure to live up to the hype, but how should you be betting it? OddsChecker's Jason Radowitz breaks it all down. Because you can never get enough information on this week's Game of the Year.

At times, Georgia has looked like the best team in the country and possibly the first repeat champion in the CFP era. This season the offense has been much more productive than last year. They are actually second to the Vols in yards and averaging better than 41 ppg. Pair that with a defense that is second in the nation and giving up just 10 ppg and they are generally winning with ease. This is a very balanced team that takes what the opponent gives them.

A Look At the Lines

Georgia has been favored by at least 16 points in every game this season. That 16-point margin was in the opener against Oregon, which was also their most convincing victory of the season. I am not sure a spread that is half that number presents a buying opportunity on the Champs but this is as small a number as you are going to get during the regular season.

Georgia is just 4-4 ATS this season but Tennessee is a very profitable 7-1 ATS. That included the upset of Alabama where they were +9.5. The Vols have been favored in every other game with their only ATS loss coming in a game against Florida, where the Gators cashed on the backdoor. If you dig the Orange, this is the spot you have been looking for.

Score Prediction: Georgia 34 - Tennessee 27

Being at home is going to matter for this one, it will be a good scene at Sanford Stadium for sure. I am not seeing this as an even match but the Vols are equipped to stay in the game which is why I have them covering and keeping it pretty close throughout. UGA has some injuries on the defensive side of the ball but I am not too worried. I do not expect Tennessee to be able to go bombs away against the Dawgs. This is a close competitive game throughout.

Note: I jumped on the Vols early on the ML against Alabama. I liked the way they looked early and it paid off. You might want to watch the first offensive series for each team and make an in-game wager in this one too.
