Noah Vedral or Art Sitkowski to start at QB for Rutgers vs. Michigan State

And then there were two.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Rutgers Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano told reporters on Monday that either Noah Vedral or redshirt sophomore Art Sitkowski will start at quarterback for Saturday's season opener against the Michigan State Spartans.

Johnny Langan, who started eight games for Rutgers last year, redshirt freshman Cole Snyder and true freshman Evan Simon are all out of the running.

Vedral joined Rutgers from the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a graduate transfer. Sitkowski made two starts last year before taking a redshirt season.

"There's a reason why it's Art and Noah as the 'or' because they've kind of established themselves as the top two," Schiano explained in a conference call. "But it's not a huge drop-off."

Schiano added: "I won't go into in depth what the odds are. They are what they are. We'll find out at game time."

Throughout his collegiate career, Vedral has completed 58 of 90 passes (64.4%) for 723 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He rushed for 196 yards and six scores on 55 attempts.

Sitkowski, meanwhile, has hit on 178 of 341 career throws (52.2%) with five touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
