North Carolina vs UCF Prediction: Bill Belichick and Scott Frost Take Center Stage

It's not supposed to be about the coaches, especially those who limped into their respective gigs.

Bill Belichick might be the greatest football coach of all-time, but he's not here at North Carolina if he didn't have three losing seasons in his last four at New England, closing out with a 4-13 2023.

Scott Frost did wonders at UCF in his first time around, but he's not back in Orlando if the run at Nebraska wasn't such a spectacular failure.

But these two, with a little bit of time, should be back to form. They're still excellent football coaches, and they just need to be settled in.

UCF has started 2-0, but this is the first test of any sort in a true rebuild. North Carolina has been blah over the first three games,

Why North Carolina Will Win

UCF is still a long way from being back to its old self.

Scott Frost will need a year or so to recreate the magic - aka, bring in the talent - and it all starts on the lines.

North Carolina won't mess with this too much. It won't get too fancy with the midrange passing game, instead going with more of a controlling ground game to start doing more to own the time of possession battle.

The key, though, will be the takeaways. They've come up with six so far, the Tar Heel offense gave it up just once over the last two games, and ...

Why UCF Will Win

North Carolina has been shockingly miserable on third downs so far. It was fine against Richmond, but it did nothing against TCU, wasn't great against Charlotte, and now has to deal with a UCF defense that knows how to attack.

The Knight run D might not be so great so far, but it's getting behind the line, and it's been disruptive.

Granted, it's only gone against Jacksonville State and North Carolina A&T, but the defense has been great on third downs, the two weeks off after the scrimmage in Week 2 against the Aggies should help, and ...

No pressure, but this is a must-win game for both teams

Again, it might take a bit for these two programs to get up to speed, but it had better happen now.

North Carolina gets Clemson next week and then has to go to Cal. UCF travels to deal with a desperate Kansas State to start an interesting Big 12 season.

UCF will have a bit of an early boost at home, and then North Carolina will settle in. It won't be anything pretty, but both teams will be so equally meh that the game will be good.

The Tar Heels will get just a little more defensive production to get out with a tight win on a walk-off kick.
