CJ Carr and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 7-2, with a Week 12 matchup against the Pittsburgh Panthers. They're on a seven-game winning streak after losing their first two games of the season to Miami and Texas A&M.
Much of the team's success can be attributed to Carr, who is in his first season starting as a redshirt freshman. In nine games, he's completed 152-of-225 passes for 2,275 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also had two rushing touchdowns with 31 yards.
After earning the No. 9 spot on the latest College Football Playoff Rankings, Notre Dame is looking to win its first national championship since 1988.
Carr is establishing himself as one of the top players in college football, and on Wednesday, Notre Dame announced he'd been named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award.
"Driven competitor CJ Carr has been selected as a Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Semifinalist," the Fighting Irish wrote.
He is one of 20 quarterbacks to make the list , joined by other recognizable names such as Georgia's Gunner Stockton, Alabama's Ty Simpson, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia, Oregon's Dante Moore and Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.

According to the award's official website, it is "presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award." Last year's winner was Miami's Cam Ward.
In Carr's first season as the starter, he has been tasked with replacing Riley Leonard, who helped Notre Dame reach the national championship last season.
On the heels of another College Football Playoff appearance and in contention to win such a prestigious award, he's done well.
Carr's next matchup against No. 22 Pittsburgh is important, though. The game begins at noon ET at Acrisure Stadium, airing on ABC.
