Notre Dame Drops To No. 9 In The Latest Associated Press Poll

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped their season opener to the Miami Hurricanes down in Hard Rock Stadium Sunday night 27-24. The Irish clawed their way back from a 21-7 deficit in the third quarter behind a strong performance from first-time starter CJ Carr. Carr finished the night 19-30 for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and one interception. The late game heroics from the redshirt freshman weren't enough to conquer the Hurricanes.

Notre Dame is coming off of a 14-2 season where they won two major bowls (Sugar Bowl & Orange Bowl) and played for a National Championship. Miami was looking for a signature win to kick off their 2025 season and did so by knocking off the 6th-ranked team in the country. The Irish are now ranked No. 9 in the country while the Hurricanes climbed up to No. 5 after a signature win Sunday night. Notre Dame is heading into their first bye week of the season still ranked in the AP Top 10 and will prepare to take on the No. 19 ranked Texas A&M Aggies on September 13.

There was a lot of movement in the Top 10 in week one with No. 1 Texas falling to No. 3 Ohio State on the road, No. 4 Clemson losing to No. 9 LSU at home and No. 8 Alabama losing their season opener to unranked Florida State on the road. The Seminoles are now back in the Top 25 at No. 14 after knocking off the Crimson Tide at home.

Clemson fell to No. 8 while LSU climbed up to No. 3 after their road victory Saturday night. Ohio State is now the No. 1 ranked team in the country while Texas fell to No. 7. Alabama has dropped out of the Top 10 and is now the No. 21 ranked team in the country. The Boise State Broncos have now fallen out of the Top 25 after a 34-7 blowout loss on the road. Utah has now entered the AP Top 25 as the No. 25 team in the country.
