Notre Dame football set to host top-100 2027 recruit for a multi-day visit, and don’t be surprised if an offer is extended

When you think of Notre Dame football, offensive line play is one of the first things that comes to mind. Recent names like Quenton Nelson, Zack Martin, Joe Alt, Ronnie Stanley, and Mike McGlinchey quickly come to mind. Whoever the offensive line coach is, the Fighting Irish program always recruits the position extremely well.

Notre Dame is now expecting a huge visit this week when 2027 Saint Joseph (Ill.) Ogden offensive tackle Cameron Wagner will be checking out South Bend on March 26-27. While Wagner doesn’t currently hold an offer from the Irish, there is a solid chance that could change very quickly. It wouldn’t be shocking if that happened as quickly as this week.

Wagner is rated very highly from a recruiting rankings perspective. 247Sports has Wagner currently rated as the No. 64 overall player, No. 7 offensive tackle, and No. 1 player from the state of Illinois in the 2027 recruiting class. He is also rated similarly on the 247Sports Composite Ranking, currently pegged as the No. 83 overall player and No. 11 offensive tackle on that ranking.

The 6-6, 280-pound offensive tackle is beginning to blow up in terms of recruiting interest lately. Some of the schools that have offered Wagner so far include Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa, Louisville, Illinois, and Purdue. Schools like Notre Dame and Ohio State are also doing their homework on Wagner as well.

From a talent perspective, there is a lot to like about Wagner. He’s tall, long, and extremely athletic. Wagner also possesses a very clean frame, and one that should be able to put on a substantial amount of weight. In a lot of ways, this recruitment is reminiscent of Owen Strebig in the 2025 class, who was offered a couple of weeks after the Pot of Gold.
