Notre Dame football starts pursuit of high-upside pass catcher from arguably the most talent rich area of high school football

Notre Dame football made an extremely interesting offer on Wednesday to 2026 Anaheim (Calif.) Servite tight end Luke Sorensen. Servite, for people that don’t follow high school football, plays against some of the best competition in the country. Dipping into that talent pool is never a bad thing, especially when the Fighting Irish have had big wins with players like Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and Madden Faraimo recently.

If you love high-level production, Sorensen won’t be for you. Servite has utilized Sorensen more as an in-line blocker this past season. The 6-4, 245-pound tight end managed to just haul in 15 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns. There is an expectation that Sorensen is going to be utilized in the passing game a lot more as a senior.

Even without the protection matching Sorensen’s talent, he has still been pursued by a lot of impressive programs. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miami, Auburn, Penn State, USC, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Colorado, Missouri, UCLA, Boston College, Cal, Arizona, and Oregon State among others.

Sorensen is considered a consensus three-star player by every major recruiting platform. The California standout is rated as the No. 19 tight end and No. 41 player in the state of California in the 2026 recruiting class. On the 247Sports Composite ranking has Sorensen pegged as the No. 651 overall player and No. 33 tight end in the class.

Notre Dame is in a good spot with Waukee (Iowa) High School star Evan Jacobson right now, and they continue to pursue talented players like Ian Premer and Matt Ludwig. There’s no telling where Sorensen fits into this picture right now, but the Irish are interested in bringing in two tight ends in the 2026 recruiting class. Who that ends up being will be interesting to navigate.

As of today, Sorensen is a bit of a wildcard. He has the size and frame to develop into an inline threat on the college level. Sorensen is a smooth athlete but he is very raw pass catcher. He would be an interesting second tight end in a class to develop those tools.
