Notre Dame is set for the most entertaining QB battles in several years, and CJ Carr, Kenny Minchey, and Steve Angeli all have a strong selling point

The story of the Notre Dame offseason is going to center around the quarterback position. After the Fighting Irish have gone to the Transfer Portal each of the last two offseasons for Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard, it appears that they are comfortable with the signal callers in the room now. That means there is a quarterback battle on the horizon.

The three names to know are Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey, and CJ Carr. Each of those quarterbacks has a claim to win the starting spot, and some excitement that each would bring. Here are the outlook for the battle, and the positives the signal callers bring to the table.

Steve Angeli (RS Junior)

In terms of experience, Angeli brings the most live reps by a considerable margin. In limited opportunities, he has thrown for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns, while throwing just one interception and completing over 72 percent of his passes. If this competition comes down to comfort in the offense and trust, Angeli will have a strong chance. His raw tools aren't great, but the competitiveness Angeli brings is.

Kenny Minchey (RS Sophomore)

If you want to get on arm strength and mobility, Minchey might have the best combination of anyone in the room. He has become a bit of the wildcard of the room, but Minchey should have every chance to win this starting job. One could argue, and I would, that Minchey brings the most upside if he hits. The problem is that the floor Minchey brings may also be the lowest of the three.

CJ Carr (RS Freshman)

Carr has become almost a mythical figure for Notre Dame fans. There is this assumption out there that he is going to completely flip the quarterback fortunes for the Irish program. There are even some fans who are talking about him as a future first round pick even before throwing his first collegiate pass. Let’s hope he’s what everyone is acting like he is if he wins the job. Carr is talented, and probably enters as the favorite to win the job in the end.
