Notre Dame still cleared to play Boston College despite COVID-19 concerns

Fans of the No. 2-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish drew criticism from around the country when students and others rushed onto the field to celebrate last Saturday's emotional 47-40 double-overtime win over the Clemson Tigers because of fears related to potential COVID-19 infections.

So far, so good, or at least that's the word coming from Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly roughly 48 hours ahead of his team's road game at the Boston College Eagles.

"We don't have anybody that's on our travel roster over the last few weeks that would not be traveling with us," Kelly explained when speaking with reporters on Thursday, per Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. Kelly added that the Irish have two testing rounds remaining ahead of Saturday.

According to the school, two athletes who tested positive and two others deemed close contacts did not attend Saturday's victory over Clemson.

Kelly also said that wide receiver Braden Lenzy is out through the weekend due to a hamstring issue but could return to play against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Nov. 27. Fellow receiver Javon McKinley is cleared from the concussion protocol and is practicing on Thursday.

It's been a rough week around college football as it pertains to coronavirus-related schedule alterations. Four Southeastern Conference football games were postponed, Ohio State-Maryland was canceled, and Navy-Memphis was scrapped.
