Officials Under Fire for Controversial Non-Call in Big 12 Title Game

The conference title games are underway and there's already been a major controversy.

Less than 30 minutes into the Big 12 title game between Arizona State and Iowa State the officials are playing a significant role - and not in a good way. The Sun Devils were picked to finish last in the Big 12 preseason media poll, but Kenny Dillingham's team is here to play.

With a shot at the College Football Playoff on the line, there's plenty at stake - and a swallowed whistle might be a determining factor.

Trailing 17-10 in the second quarter, Cyclones wide receiver Carson Brown went streaking down the sideline as quarterback Rocco Becht escaped the pocket. Becht was able to get a pass off and in the general direction of Brown, who looked to be interfered with on the play.

The ball fell incomplete and stunningly, there was no flag.

"Cannot believe Rocco got this throw on target nor can I believe there wasn't a call," popular social media account CJ Fogler revealed.

An alternate angle of the play shows clear contact between Brown and the Sun Devils defensive back, who rode him down the sideline the entire play.

And yet, no flag.

Fans couldn't believe there was no call on the play.

"Yeah it was definitely PI not called. Big moment," college football writer Chris Vannini said.

"You legit can’t call PI the rest of the game if you don’t call this," suggested another.

"Better Vision. Better Calls. Maybe we should offer NCAA refs free Modern LASIK?" suggested LASIK.

Iowa State went on to miss a 46-yard field goal and on the very next possession, Arizona State scored to take a 24-10 lead into halftime.
