Ohio State went to the transfer portal this weekend to add a player with two years of remaining eligibility in college football.

Former Buffalo P Anthony Venneri is joining the Buckeyes as a preferred walk-on who should have a chance to compete as the starting punter.

Second-year punter Joe McGuire handled the punting duties this spring and the Buckeyes are excited about incoming freshman Nick McLarty, an Australian punter who will come in and compete as well. McLarty is a 6-foot-7, 255-pound punter.

Venneri set a program record at Buffalo last season with 43.88 yards per punt. Venneri booted 17 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 12 boots of more than 50 yards in 2023. He handled the punting duties for two seasons after earning the job as a true freshman. Prior to his college time, Venneri St. Tomas More Catholic Secondary School in Canada.

The Buckeyes are attempting to replace three-year starter Jesse Mirco, who transferred to Vanderbilt to finish his college football career

While it isn’t a high-profile add from the portal, it is one that could come in and start for the Buckeyes.
