Ohio State currently has 16 verbal commitments for the class of 2026. June has been a crucial month for the Buckeyes, with several key visits and three new commitments taking place.
So far, the Buckeyes have two cornerbacks committed, and they were in position to potentially add a third on Monday. However, that didn’t come to fruition, as Ohio State lost their four-star target to another Big Ten program.
Danny Odem, a four-star cornerback from The First Academy (FL), announced his decision Monday. His final choices were Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson. Ultimately, Odem committed to Nebraska and is now set to spend the next three or four years playing for head coach Matt Rhule. Heading into his decision, there was some momentum in Ohio State’s favor—but that ultimately did not hold.

Ohio State still holds commitments from four-star cornerbacks Jordan Thomas and Jakob Weatherspoon. While the Buckeyes may continue to recruit Odem until signing day, he currently stands as a big win for Nebraska. Odem is ranked No. 253 overall and the No. 22 cornerback in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
It’s rare for Nebraska to beat out Ohio State for a recruit—but that’s exactly what happened here. Now, attention turns to who the Buckeyes will target next as their third cornerback in the 2026 class.
