Defensive line recruiting has always been a top priority for the Ohio State Buckeyes, especially with Larry Johnson at the helm of the position group.

Ohio State is now up to 18 total commitments in the class of 2026 after landing four-star defensive lineman Damari Simeon. With two defensive line pledges currently in the fold, the Buckeyes still have work to do at the position as the cycle continues.

They were also in the mix for another four-star defensive line talent—Jackson Ford—but the standout prospect is heading to a Big Ten rival and former Buckeye assistant.

Four-star EDGE Jackson Ford commits to Penn State over Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin

Jackson Ford, a product of Malvern Prep (PA), has committed to play for Jim Knowles’ defense at Penn State. It’s a notable recruiting win for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions—something that hasn’t come easily against the Buckeyes in recent cycles.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Ford is ranked as the No. 31 EDGE and the No. 306 overall player nationally in the 2026 class. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound pass rusher holds around 20 scholarship offers and has the tools to become a solid Power Four contributor.

247Sports Scouting Report: “Force-based edge defender that has proven to be rather effective against the run as he slips off blocks and gets to the ball carrier. Looks the part with a sturdy 6-foot-4, 240-pound build and is likely to keep adding mass as he’s on the younger side for his grade. Not the most limber athlete, but has flashed the ability to plant and redirect as he flows forward. Can win with snap anticipation and uses an above-average first step to gain an edge on opponents. Quick to shoot the hands as a pass rusher and holsters a nifty spin move. Tends to create most of his pressures with pure effort, and further technical development should only make him more valuable on passing downs as he’s still learning how to work in secondary moves after initially billing himself as more of a tight end.”

Ohio State and Larry Johnson still have several top defensive line targets on the board. The Buckeyes currently hold a commitment from four-star Khary Wilder, who could contribute in a small role as a true freshman. Their top remaining target at the position is Carter Meadows.
