The college football season kicks off this weekend, and Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” will be at Ohio State for the game against Texas. The bad news is that one of Fox’s newly acquired personalities, Dave Portnoy, has been banned from the stadium. He will still appear while the broadcast team is still outside of OSU stadium, but once Rob Stone and the boys go inside, he will not. Let’s dive into the facts of this barring.
The big reason that this has taken place is because of Portnoy being a huge supporter of the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State’s biggest rival. He attended Michigan and has been a loyal fan ever since. He is always posting on social media about the rivalry and is very vocal about how the Wolverines have won the last four games against OSU!
He is also a great recruiter for Michigan. He played a part in Bryce Underwood flipping from LSU to attend Michigan. The interesting part of this is that Fox anticipated issues between Portnoy and OSU. That is why the original plan did not include him entering the stadium. Former OSU Linebacker Bobby Carpenter said on his Columbus radio show that many folks from his alma mater are “Not happy at all about Portnoy being hired by Fox!”
This is a very childish move on Ohio State’s part, as former Head Coach Urban Meyer has been a part of the program since the beginning, and Michigan has allowed him to go anywhere on its campus. The Buckeyes must still be feeling the high of winning the National Championship last season and thinks the college football world revolves around them.
